Find Me in the Afterglow

A story taking inspiration from platonic and nihilistic thinking, Find Me in the Afterglow's thematic idea is inspired by The Terror Management Theory, directly delving into humanity's gambit with fear. With running motifs throughout the novel that touch on symbolic structure from the color red to fire, this story looks at rebirth and its fallout. A unique narration covering multiple points of views, show how fear influences our decisions while allowing the reader to decide the consequence of terror. Read from the points of view of characters like Ash, who are hesitantly optimistic, or conversely from characters like Odell, who are uniquely jaded.

Icarian Games

The Icarian Games

A story inspired by a simple question: Why do we lie? Why do we put on a show if we ourselves are suffering? Thus the Icarian Games was born with that theme in mind, Kali built a show for this short story with motifs created around elephants, sword swallowers, knife throwers, and more; all reflected to answer just that. And true to her writing style she created distinct voices in this multi narration for eclipsing views on the thematic question. So read from Nels and Slen's point of view as they run a gambit to prove why we lie as a darker forces presses in. But whether you agree with the charismatic ringmaster or the fresh faced boy, Kali wants you to answer the question for yourselves. So why do we lie? For ourselves, others, or something else entirely?

What Lies Beneath the Lake

What Lies Beneath the Lake

What Lies Beneath the Lake is inspired by the question of when should you turn back? Based around topics of codependency and toxic relationships, the story follows a young boy who loses himself beneath a lake. Using motifs around fog, sailing, and  fairytales, Kali creates a haunting story of a lost child. With allusions to the lady of the lake and the sunken villa. What Lies Beneath the Lake raises the question of when do you leave after you given your all?

A Monster in Time

A Monster in Time

What is the price of the secrets we keep? A Monster in Time tells a haunting story of the burden that comes with our clandestine lives. Using a nostalgic and warm setting to juxtapose the brutality of the monsters, Kali creates a story around four different creatures as they consume a woman's life. Creating a discussion around the secrets we keep for our home, and the secrets we keep from ourselves, from our friends, and from time, the story weighs the benefits versus costs of a lifetime of secrets. With empty cabinets, and blossoming fields, there's only the question of when the secret comes to light.

This story asks who is a promise for, and who would you be if every aspect of your life was on display 24/7?Gossamer's Glass seeks to create a discussion on the consequence of a promise, the cost of heaven, and the price of turning away. Using motifs constructed around lemon groves, glass cities, and utopia, Kali asks: do we make promises to prove ourselves, and are our promises tied to our persona? But most importantly she seeks to ask: given the opportunity to never struggle again, would we willing become dolls in a menagerie?
